Ball's Bluff Battlefield Regional Park
Description:
This park preserves the site of the Battle of Ball's Bluff. This October 21, 1861 clash was the second largest to take place in the county during the Civil War. It took place along the banks of the Potomac River, where the Union fell backward into the river in a defeat that merited a congressional investigation. The national cemetery here is one of the smallest in the country. A one mile hiking trail offers interpretive signs. No restrooms.
Hours:
Open daily, dawn to dusk. Guided tours are offered on weekends from May through mid-October, Saturday-Sunday at 11am and 1pm.
