Limited-Edition 40th Anniversary Collaboration Wine
With more than 50 wineries and located just 25 miles from the nation's capital, Loudoun is DC’s Wine Country®. This year marks the 40 year anniversary of winemaking in Loudoun thus creating the glorious wine region that is here today. In celebration, a dozen wineries united to create a one-of-a-kind, limited release Loudoun Red that is being spearheaded by Visit Loudoun and Kerem Baki of Hillsborough Winery, Brewery & Vineyard. Each winemaker has provided a barrel of an estate-grown vintage to create a fruit forward red wine blend with an earthy finish and spice infused mid-palate topped off with hints of cocoa and tobacco. This limited-edition wine will be released in October at each of the 12 participating wineries. Don’t miss a chance to purchase a bottle and celebrate 40 years of dedication to the land that crafted DC’s Wine Country®.

Interview with Kerem Baki
How many wineries took part? The Red Blend has 12 participant wineries and seven different grape varietals – a great representation of the diversity of grapes and winemaking talent in Loudoun.
How many bottles will be produced? 300 cases – 3,600 bottles. Each winery contributed one barrel of wine (25 cases) for the blend.
What is its flavor profile? Fruit forwardness with an earthy finish and a spice-infused mid-palate. Moderate oak adding a hint of cocoa and tobacco. All balanced with a creamy mouthfeel and smooth finish.
Have you done other collaboration wines? In 2019 I worked on my first collaborative blend with seven neighboring wineries in the Loudoun Heights Wine Trail region. We named that wine Valle Tranquilo – “quiet valley.” I hosted the blending for three vintages.
Does Loudoun wine have a distinctive taste? With Virginia’s rainfall its taste profile is similar to other humid regions throughout the world such as Southwest France, Uruguay and parts of Eastern Europe. In addition to the fruity and tropical flavors you also get a complex variety of citrus, floral, earth, spice and herbs.
What do you love most about Loudoun wine or the Loudoun wine region overall? The diversity of wine styles. It’s never monotonous. You will always have a unique and distinctive experience anywhere you go in Loudoun.
